IWC Medal Winner Tasting Singapore
17 August 2010
Goodwood Park Hotel, Singapore
Overview
The last decade has witnessed an average of 8-10% yearly growth in domestic consumption of wine with ongoing uptake in the 60% of households in the middle to upper income bracket, primarily among affluent 25 to 50 year olds, biased towards male consumers. The 150,000 expatriate families, plus a strong hospitality sector buoyed by 10 million tourists a year, also provide a strong market. In addition, around 30% of the 16 million litres annually imported is re-exported into nearby territories, whose wine markets are also in growth. Red wine accounts for around 60% of the market, although the white wine share is increasing, partially driven by uptake among female consumers, maturing attitudes to wine and the compatibility of white wine with the cuisine.
