IWC Medal Winner Tasting Hong Kong

24 August 2010
Langham Place Hotel, Kowloon, Hong Kong

Overview

hong kongWine imports rose by 88% following duty abolition in 2008 creating the first free wine port among major economies. 35 million litres were imported to Hong Kong in 2009, with over 50% re-exported to surrounding territories, with Mainland China the major recipient. Red wine accounts for around 75% of the domestic market although white wine is gaining share and the fine wine market is booming. Wine is increasingly seen as an aspirational, high-status drink, bought for investment, status symbol gifts and as an essential offering at social and business gatherings. In addition to over 2 million residents with an annual income over US$100,000, Hong Kong also has a 530,000-strong expatriate community.
